Born in Mexico and raised in the diverse tapestry of Houston ,Texas, Dida made Seattle home in 2006. She has gravitated towards photography since she was a small child, back then she used disposal cameras until she took a film photography class in high school. She has a growing collection of cameras of all shapes and sizes that she enjoys shooting. Dida recently started her ceramic journey and immediately realized it has become part of who she is as an artist.
"I photograph because it captures a personal moment that evokes emotions in me. Shooting film forces me to slow down and pay attention to the details of my surroundings. I mostly capture landscape and street, but I'm not confined to those two styles. A year ago, I started using a pinhole camera. That too, forces me to slow down, take it all in, and put in the time to get paper/film developed, scanned, and edited."
"A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know.”
-Diane Arbus
